影音的種類繁多,因目的、載體、傳輸方式等不同,就能產生不同的呈現形式。
現在商業開放與科技發展,影音形式更加多元,以下就常見的幾種概略說明:
1. 戲劇節目:由於戲劇節目的內容多元與生活化,影音的製作為完整故事鋪陳則有單元劇與連續劇。有的還衍生成錄影帶或光碟增加其附加價值。 
2. 綜藝節目:因應環境變遷與激烈競爭,型式很多,像是座談、歌舞、趣味遊戲等都很常見。
3. 新聞專題:特定針對某一議題深入報導,而事先預製作的影音,我們常稱之為VCR,則是套用在節目中或新聞中,增加豐富與節奏性。這裡特別提的 VCR,它的說明可以不完整,扮演節目中的串連角色,亦可完整且獨立,做為未來網路流通的短片型式。

4.紀錄片: 藉由一小事件或小人物的故事,放大情境使其令人注目而產生關切,達到宣傳的目地。

5. 廣告:通常電視上看的廣告,也就是我們常聽到的CF(Commercial Film),至今不管還是不是用膠卷拍攝,都已用來通稱廣告。(短片亦然)

影音作品除商業訴求外,政府亦已運用影音可能呈現的型式置入行銷相關績效。
又網路科技與影音資訊平台的成熟,政府或是機關及企業組織,本著成本的考量,已可自建短打型的系列VCR或是新聞專題,長期做為其與民溝通直接管道。

企業的介紹也不再是厚厚一疊的文宣與圖片,反有企業簡介影片方式滿足了許多企業與客戶的關係。企業的產品行銷或是教育訓練,皆可自建影音頻道隨時掌握通路行銷權。

WiMax時代的來臨整合既有的網路科技傳輸技術,從30分鐘或是60分鐘的影音節目規格,到電腦3分鐘或是5分鐘影音短片規格,最終到手上隨時隨處可接收的30秒或是1分鐘的影音規格。影音作品成為資產,並且可以隨選或是重覆觀看。影音作品不再是消耗素材,扮演階段性的任務,因此其製作的精緻度與品質格外顯得重要。

There are many categories of video and different forms of presentation may be appropriate depending on the goals, vehicles, and transmission method.With the opening of commerce and the development of technology, video options are more diverse than ever. Below is a brief introduction to several of the more popular forms:

1. Drama program: using diverse and lively dramatic content, the video production can thoroughly narrate a story. These include single programs and TV series. Some create derivative DVDs to create added value.

2. Variety shows: responding to changes in the environment and fierce competition, many types have emerged, including talk shows, song and dance shows, and game shows.

3. News reports: These offer a penetrating look at a specially designated topic, using pre-prepared video. These are called VCRs, and they are often used in the middle of a program or the news in order to enhance the rhythm or enrich the programming. For VCRs, story do not always need to be complete. They can act as a transition between programs or as a complete, independent program, perhaps later becoming a short clip on the Internet.

4. Documentaries: The circumstances surrounding a minor event, or the story of a relatively unknown person, are expanded to create a program that captures people's attention and achieves the desired promotional effect.

5. Advertising: Usually the advertisements we see on television, which we hear called CF (Commercial Film) whether or not they are made using film, refer to TV advertisements.

Videos, apart from their use in business, are also used by the government as embedded marketing to achieve desired promotional objectives.

As Internet technology and video information platforms mature, government bodies and business organizations, due to cost considerations, have begun creating their own short series of VCRs and news reports, establishing a direct line of communication with citizens, clients, and customers.

Company introductions no longer mean a thick pile of marketing literature and pictures; instead, many companies are using company introduction videos to create and maintain relationships with their clients. Companies can also create video channels to market products or conduct company training, allowing the company to carefully control its marketing and distribution.

WiMax, which will soon become widespread, will integrate existing Internet transmission technology to allow consumers to watch 30-60 minute video programs on their Web TV, 3 to 5 minute short films on their computer, and 30 second or 1 minute videos on their cell phone, PDA or other handheld device.

Video works have become an important asset, and they can be selected and viewed again and again as the viewer likes. Videos are no longer consumable material with a short life span, which is why their production quality has become so important.
